RECORD/CD REVIEWS
"United hardcore
punk rock straight out of Portland, Oregon. Blackout! Records The
Escaped have unleashed Rose City Hard Core, an exciting record
full of old school
punk rock, chanting choruses, and fun and energetic beats that will sure
get the masses
movin in the pit. The great thing about Rose City Hard Core
is it contains 1/3 punk,
1/3 hardcore, and 1/3 hardcore punk. Its always refreshing to find
an album that can
divvy up the sound like The Escaped do and make it sound satisfying and
fun. Rose
City Hard Core luckily is good enough to make a record that splits
itself up at times
sound wise, but still stays on the right track throughout. The closing song
on the album,
a punk rock driving chanting Show Me The Way is the bands
standout for Rose City
Hard Core. The band leads the way for the Portland, Oregon punk rock
scene and will
hopefully help more bands in the area become discovered now that the city
has been put
on the map by The Escaped."

"Working class
ethics and punk rock usually always make a winning combination. Most
of the time you can tell when a band has the working class type of mind
set. There is an
air of confidence behind them. The can carry their own. This is the case
with Portland,
Oregons The Escaped. With just being signed in April by NYCs
Blackout! Records,
they have put out their first album called Rose City Hard Core.
Their sound would be
that of old school punk rock but with some hardcore flare. A mix of Total
Chaos, Kill
Your Idols, and The Bruisers. This young and hard working band has a sound
that will
make all the street punk and all the hardcore lovers run to their local
record stores to
pick this album up. 10 street wise punk rock anthems for just about everyone."
"These guys do
play some pretty fast and mostly solid, predominately East Coast styled
h.c. Somewhere around Sick Of It All, Crumbsuckers (minus an overt metal
sound) and
even in some places a little like Poison Idea. Toss in a bit of snarling
street punk and
youll have The Escaped. Some solid, punk/hardcore action, for sure."

"If its
true that art (or music, in this case) imitates life, then its fair
to assume that Portland,
OR is a grim place. From the albums dense industrial cover art to
lyrics like if pain makes
you stronger then Im fucking bulletproof, this album is a tenacious
and un-compromised
assault from a band that has had it up to their ears. The Escaped is that
dirty hardcore that
you hear echoing from DIY shows and basements. There is nothing witty or
trendy about
their Warzone inspired guitar sound and their dual vocalist onslaught and
they dont
capture some old school retro hardcore sound only to re-institute it half
heartedly. The
songs are steadfast odes to personal anguish and vows to overcome dead-end
situations.
Trendy hardcore proponents beware, The Escaped is on the prowl with enough
blood, sweat,
and tears to wash your eye-lined faces clean."
- Law of Inertia
"If you ask me,
this here is fighting music. The guys in The Escaped have been screwed
with one too many times and plan on ripping out the throat of anyone that
messes with them.
If youre pissed and miss the rawness of old-school hardcore but still
have a thing for this
tough-guy stuff, give The Escaped a listen."
- The Wake Mag
"Portlands
The Escaped play hardcore punk with an adherence both to a fast paced metal-
free scheme and to a rousing streetpunk-tinged sensibility, as well. No
frills chord progressions
and vocals howls abound, to the backdrop of hefty shout-along choruses.
A distinctive
anthemic energy is captured here, straddling a fine line between New York-singed
HC and
grimier punk sensibilities that have defined the Portland scene for some
time. This is an
enjoyable debut."

"The Escaped
= Madball + The Unseen + Iron Cross
The Escaped got it right. Fast, hard, mean, and to the damn point. With
tear-off-your-head
guitar work, dual vocals that are pounded into your chest and choruses that
you have to
scream along with at the top of your lungs, I dont see how anyone
could possibly listen
to this without swinging their arms violently and slamming into walls. I
dont know how
this band from Portland, Oregon rolled together all the best aspects of
East Coast hardcore
and street punk, but they did and it is the best new hardcore that I have
heard in a long time."
- Slug Mag
"This is the
good shit right here. Straight up dual-vocal hardcore glory the way it was
meant
to be done. I put this thing into my stereo and was immediately taken back
to the days of
the Berkley Square hardcore shows when bands like POWERHOUSE, HOODS, REDEMPTION
87, and PRESSURE POINT would all play together (and fight together). Old
school hardcore
with a gigantic oi and street punk influence. This thing is awesome. Recommended
for fans
of WARZONE, AGNOSTIC FRONT, BAD BRAINS, and SLAPSHOT. Look into this band."

"Every month
I get at least one awesome new CD from Rodent Popsicle, and this month it's
The Escaped. They come hard and the come crusty. If The Escaped linked up
with Tommy
and the Terrors, Pistol Grip, the Explosion, and let the Unseen headline,
Boston would open
the floodgates and their would be no stopping the absolute mayhem that would
ensue, both
on the dance floor, and in the music world. I think they would finally break
the curse
of the Babe."

"Reigning from
the streets of Portland, Oregon, this six piece street punk wrecking crew
dishes
out a unique brand of punk rock on their new EP "Escaped Generation".
From the first song
to the last, this 8-track disc starts hard and never lets up. The fusion
of passion and pride that
resonates in every track makes the music of The Escaped different from some
of their mindless
punk counterparts. The tag-team lyrics of Zac and Tony bring forth an audio
barrage of anger
and disgust with society, and contempt for mainstream culture. They convey
their message in
the "in your face" way punk was meant to be, loud, defiant and
full of rage. The Escaped
don't ask for respect, they demand it! Every track is hard as nails; with
vocals so sharp they
cut like a knife. The guitars of Brian and Justin shred each song to pieces
while drumming
rattles off like machine gun fire. Each component of their music fits together
to form the all
out assault that is The Escaped. The songs are quick and catchy, as so full
of energy and
intensity they almost dare you to quit listening. This is a working class
band, with its roots
firmly planted in the local scene. This CD hits hard and never disappoints.
With the addition
of a bonus CD-ROM, featuring a live performance at the Paris Theatre in
November of 2002,
it makes this CD too good to pass up. For those who haven't had the privilege
of seeing The
Escaped live, this addition gives you the chance. A real bargain at $6,
this CD gives a glimpse
at what true punk rock is all about. The Escaped are a musical force to
be reckoned with."

"Once again Bill
from Rodent Popsicle brings us another CD worth your money. This time it's
a
CDEP by a band of lads called The Escaped. On this CD's eight tracks some
are fast hardcore
and some are street punk. Either way they are all good. The band even features
two vocalists.
One is more of a rough and tough vocalist and the other is a fast crusty
type. Regardless of
how you label them, the main point is that they are really good and this
combination works
rather well! The musicianship as well as lyrics are great too. All in all
this CD gets a big thumbs
up and is worth your hard earned cash. I won't leave out that there's a
CD-R video also included
in this cd. Not bad and all this for only $5.98, too. Keep up the good work
guys!"

"Remember the
Straw Dogs? Well, their breakup was the first event in the history of the
Boston
music scene that actually made me cry. Which goes a long way toward explaining
my joy at
hearing The Escaped. Tunes as catchy as Bad Religion, played with the ferocity
of Motorhead -
yeah, it's good enough to invoke the names of such gods."
- Tim Emswiler The Noise
"The Escaped
is a six-piece reign of unholy hardcore terror spewing venom, vomit, and
thundering vitriolic rage. The menacing duo of vocalists scream with inflamed,
pent-up fury,
and the musicianship is a flesh-scraping outburst of manic, nuclear-powered
aggression (I
especially like the searing, electrically charged guitar leads!) if you're
feeling like a hopeless
social outcast and you want to angrily give the world a stiff middle finger
up front in the face,
then Escaped Generation is the powerhouse punk soundtrack especially for
you. Crank it up,
and watch the decent, law-abiding citizenry tuck tail and run for the hills."
- Roger Moser JR Caustic Truths.com
"Brutally aggressive
and fun as fuck! This Oregon-based punk unit plays straightforward street
punk mixed with some high-energy gutter punk. Think Discharge drinking with
The Business and
starting a jam session based on drinking shenanigans. There also happens
to be a special video
segment on this disc capturing a stellar performance from a rowdy show back
in November. I
highly recommend this bad boy. It will fill that empty space in your pathetic
little life."

"8 song debut
by this new band from Portland mixing aggressive Hardcore and anthemic Oi!
To
create a very original sound like Social Distortion drinking with The Business."
- Ghetto-Rock.com
"... The Escaped
set up their gear and proceeded to put on a great show. These boys know
how to rock. This is the second time I've caught them live and they kick
ass. This 6 piece band
(2 on vocals, drums, lead guitar, guitar/vocals, and bass) puts out a killer
punk sound and the
crowd ate it up..." - geekass.com
"...The Escaped
played third, introducing their own brand of high energy street punk, oi,
and
even some hints of crust! Awesome fucking set..."

"Oh, dont worry, Portland wouldnt go without a half-decent
punk show for even like, 48 hours.
So if you want to be all Rose City, what the fuck check out
The Escaped, Our Towns favorite
anti-racist hardcore punks. Flanked by other politically mindful stud enthusiasts,
this show is
sure to give you a legitimate dousing of Portland punks and their ilk."

"Curious to enjoy some of Portlands hardcore streetpunk? Then
see The Escaped. Fast drums,
chugging guitars, and those scream-core vocals make for some pretty decent
music, plus, Im
sure you can expect a lot of jumping around. Wear your sneakers, and forget
your glasses."
